Changing of the guard??? … As we noted in the piece earlier today, there is still a ton of football to be played this season, but a couple of things did kind of jump out when we were calculating which teams would have early picks at the 2023 draft if we were in fact posting the current selection order. The first is that there are a number of the usual suspects that one would have assumed at the beginning of the season would be in the running for one of the early picks this year that don’t show up in the current top 10 including Jacksonville, the NY Jets, Chicago, Atlanta and Seattle which are all 2-2, as well as the NY Giants which are 3-1. At the same time, there are a number that we are accustomed to seeing in the hunt for playoff positioning rather than early draft picks including Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Las Vegas and even New England which would be among teams with top ten picks if we were to post the ‘if the draft were held today’ selection order this week.
