Buckeyes’ Ward lead fast times at CB run … The first 40 run for the CBs is in the books. Here are the unofficial results from that first run. In the end, LSU’s Donte Jackson was not able to break John Ross’ all-time 40 record, but the former Tiger was still pretty quick as he clocked a position best 4.32 seconds. In fact, Jackson was tied by Ohio State’s Denzel Ward, the top-rated pure CB who clearly solidified a top ten grade at this year’s draft. Unheralded Parry Nickerson of Tulane also clocked in at 4.32 for the fastest overall time in Indianapolis so far this year. In fact, there was some impressive speed overall as well over half of all the corners running at the combine were timed in 4.50 seconds or better. That included a 4.38 clocking by Louisville’s Jaire Alexander and times of 4.49 for Duke Dawson of Florida and Iowa’s Josh Jackson. At the same time, though, several top prospects at the position did not run quite as well as expected. Mike Hughes of Central Florida was clocked in 4.53 which isn’t slow for anyone but a 5-10 NFL CB. Auburn’s Carlton Davis, another potential first-round CB also had a somewhat disappointing 4.53 clocking, while Florida State’s Tavarus McFadden was very slow at 4.67. We’ll see if they can pick it up in the second run.
