Cards WR Fitzgerald to return for 16th season … Arizona was able to check off one box, at least for the coming season, after resigning star WR Larry Fitzgerald to a one-year deal. It will be the 16th season for Fitzgerald, one of the NFL’s all-time leading receivers. There had been some speculation that the Cardinals might look into a possible trade with Pittsburgh for WR Antonio Brown if Fitzgerald were to retire, but that would appear to be off the table. Fitzgerald’s resigning also means the Cardinals can probably focus a little more on the offensive line at the 2019 draft where they hold the first pick in every round, although they could still look to add some depth at the position in later rounds. In fact, the Fitzgerald deal likely will have little or no impact on the first pick overall as WR has never really been an option there. The Cardinals do face a bit of a conundrum at that spot though; they have made it abundantly clear that improving the offense, and especially the OL, around QB Josh Rosen is their primary goal this off-season. However, all the top prospects in the 2019 draft are defensive players so if the Cardinals want to go offense they will have to either go way off their board or trade down. Stay tuned!
