Busy week in NFL set to kick-off

August 21, 2025

Busy week in NFL set to kick-off … The final weekend of the NFL pre-season kicks off later this evening with a couple of games including Pittsburgh at Carolina (on the NFL Network at 7 PM ET) and New England at the NY Giants (on Prime Video at 8 PM ET). That will set in motion what should be a very busy 7-10 day period as teams set their rosters for the opening of the regular season as teams have to be down to their 53-man opening day rosters by the end of business on Tuesday. And while teams have until 4 PM ET on Tuesday to make their cuts it is likely that at least some of those roster moves will be announced before the deadline as teams generally don’t like to keep players that have been released around at practice.

The league is also bracing for the possibility of some major trades as there are a number of star players locked in various stages of contract disputes with their respective teams including DEs Micah Parsons of Dallas and Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson, and Washington WR Terry McLaurin. At the same time, there are several teams that have indicated that they’d be willing to trade for a top player; New England, in particular, has made no secret of the fact that they would be willing to trade a quality pick for a quality player, while Minnesota has indicated that they are at least looking for quality receiver to pair with Justin Jefferson. The betting around the league appears to lean toward those players ultimately resolving their issues with their teams, but heck, there are strange times so stay tuned! In the meantime, we’ll be tracking all this week’s cuts as usual with a particular eye on how the 2025 draft class is faring.
