Buffs’ Hunter: WR or CB … One of the existential questions regarding the 2025 draft is whether Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter, arguably THE best player in this year’s draft, will ultimately play corner or receiver at the NFL level. Hunter himself has let anyone who will listen know that he wants to play both at the next level, although there is also a sense around the league that if he in fact had to make a choice, he’d rather play WR. We also get the sense from sources around the league that NFL teams generally think Hunter will be a better CB. But, and its a big but, teams also seem to think he’d actually be a more impactful player at WR as opposing teams can take a corner out of the game by simply not throwing at him. In the end, though, it may come down to what the team that drafts him needs more.
The other question regarding Hunter that was not answered at either the combine, the official Big XII pro days or Colorado’s ‘showcase’ yesterday was just how fast Hunter is as he didn’t run the 40 at any of those events. And needless to say at this point won’t be running before the draft. Hunter’s father was a record-setting 100M sprinter in high school, but he himself did not; there is also a sense that as a somewhat long-legged guy Hunter likely wouldn’t run under 4.3, but figures to fall somewhere in the 4.35 range. Whatever, no question he plays fast and explosive.
