Bucs name Baker starting QB … Tampa Bay has confirmed that Baker Mayfield will be their starting QB when the Buccaneers open the 2023 regular season on September 10th against Carolina. Mayfield, the first overall pick in 2018 who has also played with Cleveland, Carolina, and the LA Rams, beat out second-year pro Kyle Trask to win the job. However, barring a geno Smith type comeback by Mayfield this year, one would have to think that the Buccaneers will be very much in the hunt for a new starter in 2024 either through the draft or by trading or signing a top veteran.
