Buckeyes prevail for national title … for those that were following other stuff yesterday, Ohio State won the first national championship of the true playoff era with a 34-23 win over Notre Dame in Atlanta last evening in a game that started out as a rout – the Buckeyes led 31-7 mid-way thru the 4th quarter – but ultimately wasn’t decided until the very end after the plucky Irish rallied down the stretch. It was the 9th national championship for Ohio State and 2nd of the CFP era – they won the first ever CFP title in 2014 – but just their 3rd since 1970. It was also the second straight national crown for the Big 10 after southern had won the previous 8. However, Ohio State won’t have all that long to rest on their laurels as the Buckeyes are scheduled to kick-off the 2025 campaign by hosting Texas on August 30th which, for the record is just 212 days away. Of course, it will be a very different Ohio State team that takes the field that day as they will graduate as many as 16 starters from last night’s line-up; it will also be a different Texas team as Arch Manning is expected to take over at QB for the Longhorns from Quinn Ewers who is moving onto the NFL.
