Browns still hot after QB at #2 … Speaking at the AFC coaches breakfast at the annual NFL owners meetings, Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson left little doubt that the Browns are still expecting to select a QB with the second pick overall at the 2016 draft even if they were able to sign a veteran like Robert Griffen. In particular, Jackson reportedly raved about California QB Jared Goff whose pro day they attended in numbers late last week. According to Jackson, Goff “threw the ball tremendously … He can make all the throws. For a big guy, he’s more athletic than people think. He has quick feet. He obviously has a quick release. What I’ve seen on videotape to go along with the workout is he has tremendous poise in the pocket. He’s a young man that can keep his eyes downfield when people are bearing at him and, to me, that’s an unbelievable asset. Because a lot of people can’t do that.” Jackson also praised Goff’s intangibles saying “he digs his back foot in the ground to throw the ball, where some people have a soft back foot because they’re afraid to get hit; he’s not like that. He likes to play. The guy’s a gym rat. He comes early and stays late. He’s been in a situation before where he had to be a part of what I call a reboot, not a rebuild as everyone wants to call it. Jackson also acknowledged that he’s spent some personal time with Goff and his family. Needless to say, Jackson will be front and center when North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz does his pro day thing tomorrow. However, Jackson has yet to decide whether he’ll attend the pro day of Paxton Lynch of Memphis, the 3rd rated QB this year, later this month.
