Browns coach favors Garrett

Does Browns coach Jackson favor Garrett?? … In the wake of the ESPN report earlier this week that Cleveland management was split on whether to select Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett or North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky with the #1 pick overall at this month’s draft, Browns’ well-connected beat writer Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer has countered by suggesting that all the tea leaves coming from head coach Hue Jackson indicate that he in fact favors Garrett. That’s somewhat surprising given that Jackson is known as something of a QB-guru whose stated #1 objective this off-season was to find the team’s QB of the future once and for all. The fact that Jackson is likely on board with Garrett tends to suggest that he is likely to be the pick, although there are reported some in the Browns’ camp who like Trubisky. And that has lead to speculation that the Browns may try and move higher into the opening round from the 12th pick to get both. Indeed, there has been some speculation for weeks that the Browns could try and acquire the second pick overall from San Francisco to that end. At the same time, the MO of the Browns front office has been to try and acquire more picks rather than less and moving from #12 to #2 would cost Cleveland a large share of the bundle of future picks they have acquired. One option for the Browns would be to wait and see what the 49ers and make their move up if San Francisco passes on Trubisky. Stay tuned!
