Broncos to release QB Wilson; other league updates that could impact the 2024 draft… After an unsuccessful 2-year run in Denver, the Broncos have told QB Russell Wilson that he will be released before the new NFL football year kicks on March 15th. In doing so the Broncos will absorb a monster $85M cap hit, although they will be able to spread it out over the next two seasons. It also leaves the Broncos with a huge void at QB with veteran journeyman back-up Jarrett Stidham the only QB currently under contact in Denver with any experience. The Broncos could look to bring in another veteran through free agency or a trade or look to select one at the 2024 draft, although they’d likely have to move up from the 12th pick if they wanted one of this year’s better prospects at the position. Meanwhile, for his part, Wilson will become a free agent free to sign with any team; as such he’ll likely have a number of teams interested, particularly those with a need at the position, but with limited draft options as their opening round pick is lower down. Elsewhere, Tampa Bay has resigned star WR Mike Evans, who was set to become a free agent when the new football year started later this month, to a 2-year, $52M deal. Kansas City has applied the franchise tag to CB L’Jarius Sneed. though it doesn’t guarantee that he’ll necessarily be with the Chiefs next fall. In fact, the Chiefs had given Sneed permission to seek out a trade last month and its likely he ends up in a tag-and-trade situation. And Philadelphia C Jason Kelce did make it official earlier today as he confirmed that he is retiring after 13 seasons in the league. That could be yet another hole in the lineup that the Eagles may have to look to the 2024 draft to fill. Lastly, there was a lot of buzz around the combine that the NY Giants were very interested in trying to move up from the 6th pick in this year’s opening round to get into range to be able to select one of this year’s Big 3 QBs – USC’s Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels of LSU and North Carolina’s Drake Maye. The Giants, though, aren’t likely to be only team looking to tarde up to grab a QB. There are rumblings, for example, that Las Vegas is seriously exploring the possibility of also moving up from the 13th spot. Its unlikely though that the Raiders could get into position to select one of the top 3 QB from the 13th pick overall. but could opt to move up into the middle of the top 10 to get one of the very good second-tier prospects at the position.
