Broncos bench QB Wilson; Giants back with Taylor … In kind of a shocking move, Denver, which still has a chance to make the playoffs, will start Jarrett Stidham at QB the rest of the season in place of Russell Wilson. The move apparently has little to do with Wilson’s play, although the Broncos have lost 3 of 4, but to give them some flexibility this off-season. The issue is that certain guarantees kick in when the new football year starts in March if Wilson is injured this year. Still, its hard to imagine how the Broncos get out of their current fix at the position anytime soon as it will still cost them an arm and a leg against the cap to release or trade Wilson, whose big contract extension only kicks in this coming year. And its hard to see the Broncos getting much immediate help from the draft as they currently sit 14th in the weekly selection order. Meanwhile, in a more draft related QB move, the NY Giants have announced that the Tommy DeVito experiment is essentially over and that Tyrod Taylor will start the Giants final two games. The Giants would pick 5th if the draft were held today and are reportedly also looking at the QB position; ironically though one would think Taylor gives them a much better chance of possibly winning one of their two remaining games – against the LA Rams and Eagles – than DeVito – and even one more win would almost assuredly bump the Giants out of position to get one of the top QBs in this year’s draft.
