Big uglies measure up … The scouting combine is fully underway in Indianapolis where the first group, including the offensive linemen and running backs are in the process of being weighed and measured. Unfortunately, the NFL combine people still haven’t gotten the message that these data should be widely available. Still, they do leak and Walter Football has posted the updated heights and weights of the offensive linemen along with their arm length. In fact, a lot of these particular numbers were already known from the all-star games like the Senior Bowl and needless to say nobody’s grown all that much in the interim. As a result, for example, Western Kentucky G/T Forrest Lamp, arguably the hottest offensive lineman in this year’s draft class, still has relatively short arms at just over 32 1/4 inches. That means he’s likely destined to play inside at the next level as NFL teams like their OTs to have 34-35″ arms. Among other results of note from today’s OL measurements: Utah OT Garrett Bolles, who along with WKU’s Lamp is one of the hottest offensive linemen in this year’s draft class, measured in at 6-5, 297 with 34-inch arms, each of which is just over the minimum most teams have for the position. Bolles, though, is really expected to shine when the offensive linemen hit the field for their on-field testing on Friday. In fact, the bigger test for Bolles may come in the bench press as the one major concern about his game is that he isn’t overly strong and can be pushed around while drive blocking. Meanwhile, among the top junior OL who were not eligible to attend the all-star games, Wisconsin OT Ryan Ramczyk measured in at 6-6, 310, but his wingspan was a little smaller than expected at 33 3/4 inches. On the other hand, Cam Robinson of Alabama and Florida State’s Rod Johnson both at least passed the eyeball test. Robinson measured in at 6-6, 322 with 35 1/2 inch arms, while Johnson was a tad slenderer than expected at 6-7, 298, but has 36″ arms.
