Browns stay at #1; Bears play for 2nd pick in Monday nighter … After losing at home to the New York Jets on Sunday, Cleveland is looking squarely at the possibility of an ofer for 2016 as the Browns don’t have many soft spots on their second half schedule. If it is any consolation, the Browns are also looking more and more like the prohibitive favorites to end the year with the #1 pick overall at the 2017 draft. Cleveland will certainly hold onto the #1 pick in the proverbial if the draft were held this week after their loss to the Jets. Meanwhile, Chicago and San Francisco will have the 2nd and third picks, but the order won’t be settled until after this evenings’ Monday night game in which Chicago hosts Minnesota. A loss by the Bears to the division-leading Vikings and Chicago would have the #2 pick for at least the week, followed by San Francisco; however, if the Bears can pull off the upset, the 49ers would slide up to the second slot, while Chicago would sit third. The rest of the other top picks also won’t be determined until after the Monday night game, although we can say with certainty that Carolina and Jacksonville will have the 4th and 5th picks in some order, while the Jets will have the 6th selection and Indianapolis and San Diego will divvy up the 7th and 8th picks. As usual, the opening round selection order will be updated after tonight’s game.
