Bears interest in Garropolo

February 3, 2017

Bears reportedly also high on Pats QB Garropolo … For those that didn’t see it earlier in the week, CBS Sports Jason La Canfora is reporting that Chicago is also high on New England back-up QB Jimmy Garropolo, who becomes a free-agent after the 2017 season and likely will be available in a trade this winter. There have been rumors for quite some time that Cleveland, which has the 1st and 12th overall picks in the 2017 draft, was very interested in acquiring Garropolo, but it wasn’t hard to figure that other QB-needy teams would also be throwing their hats into the rings if he were in fact available. And Chicago has a special interest in that Garropolo is a local product who played collegiately at Eastern Illinois. The Bears have the 3rd pick this year and aren’t likely going to include it in any deal for a QB, but could be willing to offer a package for Garropolo if they decided they weren’t enamored with any of the young QBs who will be available in the 2017 draft. Speaking of QBs available in the 2017 draft, La Canfora is also one of several scribes reporting that Clemson QB DeShaun Watson intends to throw at the scouting combine later in Indianapolis. In the past, many top top QB prospects have passed on throwing at the combine and have waited until their pro day to go through a scripted workout in front of pro scouts. Watson, of course, is one of the top 2-3 prospects at the position this year, but NFL teams are reportedly currently all over the map in their assessment as to where Watson, along with North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky and DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame are worth a high pick. Stay tuned!
