BC QB Jurkovec makes unexpected return … In one of those ‘man bites dog’ type scenarios, Boston College QB Phil Jurkovec, who had been thought lost for the year with a hand injury, returned to the lineup last night to help the Eagles win their conference game of the year, 17-3 over Virginia Tech. Jurkovec, a third-day type pro prospect who originally came to BC as a Notre Dame transfer, fractured a bone in his hand in the Eagles second game of the year that was thought to be season-ending. It was hardly a vintage performance by Jurkovec who completed just 7 of 13 passes for barely over 100 yards with a pick, but the Eagles, who had lost four straight in his absence, will take it. Indeed, despite being just 1-4 in the conference, in the weird world of college football bowls, BC is just one win away from being bowl eligible.
