As the QB turns (or doesn’t); Tuesday edition

As the QB turns (or doesn’t); Tuesday edition … Another QB domino fell in the NFL earlier today when Indianapolis named former Giant Daniel Jones as the Colts’ starter heading into the season. Jones beat out Anthony Richardson for the job. In fact, its almost a shocking decision by the Colts after having selected Richardson with the 4th pick overall just over two years ago. That he’s been benched for Jones who had far more misses than hits in his less than glorious 6-year tenure in New York would suggest that Colts have pretty much bailed on Richardson and will very likely be looking for another kick at the can with an early pick possibly as early as this coming April.

On the other hand, New Orleans, which had also indicated that they’d be making their QB choice this week, have put that decision off until after Saturday’s final pre-season tune-up against Denver. Second-year pro Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough have been dueling for the job, but neither has overwhelmed so far this month. They’ll split time on Saturday after sharing first-team reps this week. Again, because neither has been able to step up and put their stamp on the job will most likely also have the Saints looking at the position early in the 2026 draft.
