As the QB turns: Hallowe’en edition!

October 31, 2023

As the QB turns: Hallowe’en edition! … BOO! There are in fact, a number of impending moves at the QB position that could have a major impact on the 2024 draft selection order. For starters, Arizona, which is currently sitting on the #1 pick in next April’s first round, has reportedly benched Josh Dobbs; the early reports were that he would be replaced by rookie Clayton Tune, but later reports suggest that Kyler Murray, who hasn’t played since tearing an ACL late last fall will be activated and start against Cleveland this Sunday if all goes well at practice this week. Meanwhile, Chicago, which would have both the 2nd (from Carolina) and 3rd (their own) picks if the draft were held this week, will start Tyson Bagent when the Bears play New Orleans this weekend as incumbent Bears’ starter Justin Fields remains sidelined – with no timeline for a return to action – with a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. Elsewhere, like the Cardinals, the Giants, who would have the 4th pick this week, got some good news as Daniel Jones was cleared to play this weekend after missing three weeks with a neck injury. And his return comes at a good time for the Giants who had to play undrafted rookie free agent for Tommy DeVito most of Sunday’s loss to the Jets after backup Tyrod Taylor was knocked out of the game with a rib injury. The Giants will be in Las Vegas this weekend and there is speculation that the Raiders could bench Jimmy Garoppolo after a dismal outing in last night’s loss to Detroit; if that happens the Raiders are expected to start rookie Aiden O’Connell. It also looks like that barring a trade later today that Minnesota will also be turning the ball over to a rookie after Kirk Cousins as lost for the year with a torn Achilles on Sunday as 2023 5th rounder Jaren Hall who appears to be next man up for the Vikings.
