As the QB turns

March 8, 2017

As the QB turns … With the clocking ticking down toward the start of the new NFL season which gets underway tomorrow, San Francisco has reportedly come to terms with Chicago QB Brian Hoyer and will formally sign him tomorrow. What isn’t clear is what impact this will have on what the 49ers do with the #2 pick overall at the 2017 draft. What it does suggest perhaps is that the 49ers will not take a QB with that pick, but rather may go with a positional BPA at that spot and maybe take a developmental QB with a later selection. One veteran QB who will be available tomorrow is Dallas’ Tony Romo who has been told by the team that he will be released on Thursday. Romo will then be free to sign with any team and is expected to get serious offers from contending teams like Denver and Houston. Meanwhile, Vince Young, once the #1 pick in the NFL draft, but who hasn’t thrown a pitch in anger since 2011, has reportedly agreed to terms with Saskatchewan of the CFL.
