A few more thoughts … We wanted to add just a couple of corollary thoughts to the piece earlier today on the volatility of the current QB situation as it relates to the 2025 draft. And, again, we’re just kind of spit-balling here, but we’re wondering if one of the elements we are seeing here is that some players on top power 5 teams were able to looked great putting up really impressive numbers during the early part of their team’s schedule when they were in fact playing lesser level competition, but that the sledding has gotten much tougher once their conference schedules started. That appears to be particularly the case in the SEC where, for the first time in years, every team has at least one loss before Hallowe’en. The reality in a conference like the SEC in this era of NIL and the transfer portal is that while the traditional powers like Georgia, Alabama and LSU can attract transfer talent, so can the Vanderbilt’s, Kentucky’s and South Carolina’s. Maybe those schools won’t necessarily get the All-Americans that the traditional powers can attract, but they can get good players that want to play in the SEC somewhere. As a result, every week in the SEC is going to be a battle. No wonder the SEC wanted an automatic number of qualifiers into the CFP playoff format as the current national ranking system, which is based largely on the number of games teams have lost, doesn’t really reflect strength of schedule issues.
