Future RB watch … While RB has been diminished as a prime draft position in recent years, the 2017 draft should be something special at the position starting with star LSU junior Len Fournette. For the record, Fournette has been held out of spring practices the past couple of days with what has been described as a “minor soft tissue” injury that is not believed to be serious. Across the SEC at Georgia, the recovery of the Dawgs’ star RB Nick Chubb is reported as being ‘dead-on schedule!’ Chubb, who tore up his knee in October and underwent season-ending surgery, is back in pads and helmet this spring with the Bulldogs, although he remains limited to non-contact drills. There are also still no guarantees that Chubb will in fact be ready for the team’s season opener in September, but the expectation is that he will certainly be back at full speed at some point next fall. There is even better news at Pittsburgh where junior RB James Conner participated in drills with his teammates this week, literally just hours after he completed the 8th of 12 chemotherapy treatments he is undergoing for Hodgkin’s lymphoma which was diagnosed last fall. The hope at Pitt is that Conner will be ready to play when the Panthers season stars. On the other hand, there is no surprise that Oklahoma junior Samije Perine will miss spring practice after he underwent surgery on his ankle in January; however, Perine is expected back for fall practice.
