Top pick to be decided late Sunday

December 29, 2025

Top pick to be decided late Sunday … Which team ends up with the #1 pick overall at the 2026 draft won’t be decided until late Sunday afternoon as the NFL has released the schedule for the final weekend of the regular season. Las Vegas, which will be sitting on that top pick heading into the final weekend, will be hosting the Patrick Mahomes-less Kansas City Chiefs in the 4 PM slot on Sunday afternoon. A loss by the Raiders and they’ll have the first shot at a QB on April 24th. A Raiders win, though, could vault the NY Giants back to #1 should they have lost to Dallas in a 1 PM Sunday game. Of course, if the Giants upset the Cowboys then the Raiders will ‘back into’ the top pick whatever happens against the Chiefs. However, because every game on this week’s schedule is a divisional match-up there isn’t going to much change in team’s SOS numbers, so unless something weird happens, it does not appear as if any other team has a legit shot at earning the #1 pick even if both the Raiders and Giants win their respective games. And speaking of divisional games, three divisions are still up for grabs with all 3 scheduled for prime time slots this weekend. Carolina and Tampa Bay will play for the NFC South playoff spot on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 PM ET; San Francisco will host Seattle for the NFC West championship at 8 PM ET that evening; and then Baltimore and Pittsburgh will wrap up the schedule at 8:20 PM ET Sunday evening with the AFC North title on the line. There’s added importance in the NFC South and AFC North games as the loser will be out of the playoffs.
