LSU fires coach Brian Kelly … Hands up everyone who had Penn State’s James Franklin and Brian Kelly of LSU in their coaches likely to be fired during the season pool! Anyone? Kelly joined Franklin, who was terminated earlier this season, on the UE rolls yesterday when he was abruptly fired by LSU in the wake of the Tigers embarrassing 24-point home loss to Texas A&M Saturday evening. That dropped the Tigers, who had national championship aspirations heading into the season, to 5-3 overall and out of the top 25 altogether. One shouldn’t feel altogether sad for Kelly, though, as he’s working out the specifics of what is reported to be a mere $54M buyout – which is obscene in its own right – plus, somewhat ironically, he also now becomes the favorite to replace Franklin in Happy Valley.
