‘Horns #1 in pre-season AP college poll … With just 19 sleeps until the first full weekend of the college football season, the Associated Press has released its pre-season poll ranking the top 25 teams entering the upcoming campaign. And – somewhat astonishingly – for the first time in its most storied history, Texas is ranked #1. However, one could actually make a pretty good case that the Longhorns are ranked #1 because, well, somebody had to be. Fact is that entering the season there is no clear dominant team or teams like Ohio State last year when a bunch of the Buckeyes’ stars who were considered legit draft prospects opted to return en masse for one more kick at the national championship can, or like Alabama or Georgia in recent years when those teams were just way more talented than everyone else in the field. In fact, it appears that, at least at this time, that there are as many as 8-10 teams with a legitimate shot at winning the national title this year which could make the chase for CFP playoff spots very competitive this fall. Should be fun! And as we have noted we won’t have to wait long for the sorting out process to get into high gear with 3 top ten match-ups on that first weekend including those #1 Longhorns playing at #3, and defending national champion, Ohio State, while #4 Clemso faces #9 LSU and #6 Notre Dame meets #10 Miami.
