Titans confirm no trade for top pick … Not that anyone really expected them to actually move the pick, but Tennessee has confirmed that they will not be trading the #1 pick overall in Thursday’s opening round. Said Titans’ GM Mike Borgonzi at the team’s pre-draft press conference earlier today that “We’ve come to a consensus, the entire organization, to stay at that pick.” Borgonzi ddin’t say exactly who the Titans will actually be picking other than we’ll “find out Thursday night” although it is widely believed they’ll be taking Miami QB Cam Ward at that spot. There had been rumblings in recent days that both Cleveland and the NY Giants, who have the 2nd and 3rd picks respectively, were still calling the Titans about the top pick, although its not clear how serious those calls were. The Giants reportedly had offered the Titans what was described as a package of picks including this year’s 3rd round selection which to this untrained ear doesn’t sound like much to acquire the #1 pick in the draft. At the same time, there are reports that both the Browns and Giants are receiving calls about the 2nd and 3rd picks, but we should also point out that generally in the final days before the draft, teams routinely do talk to most other teams around the league talking about options in different scenarios.
One team that dos appear to be serious about making a move is Dallas as owner Jerry Jones claimed during his pre-draft news conference earlier today that the Cowboys are working on some “pretty substantive trades,” which sounds a little more definitive than ‘we’re making calls’ but he didn’t divulge any specifics.
