LBs complete runs

February 27, 2025

LBs get their runs in … The LBs, the third and final group of the day, have completed their 40 runs; here are the unofficial numbers as we have them, although there wasn’t necessarily a lot of news to report on the LB workout. Two of the top LBs in this year’s draft – Alabama’s Jihad Campbell and Danny Stutsman of Oklahoma – both ran well enough with 40 clockings in the low 4.5 range, although the fastest LBs were a couple of lesser knowns in Kain Medrano of UCLA (4.46) and Auburn’s Eugene Asante (4.48), the only two backers to actually break the 4.5 mark today. For the record, the Oklahoma State duo of Nick Martin (4.53) and Collin Oliver (4.56) also ran well. On the other hand, it was a disappointing day for Iowa’s Jay Higgins, a veritable tackling machine with the Hawkeyes, but couldn’t break the 4.8 barrier, while scouts were probably expecting both Jeff Bassa of Oregon (4.64) and Mississippi’s Chris Paul (4.63), who only weighed in at 222 pounds, to be a little faster.  In fact, the only really notable news may have been that Georgia’s Jalon Walker, who didn’t run, has only 32″ arms. While nominally a LB, Walker has stated to generate plenty of top ten buzz, based largely on his ability to rush the passer, but as noted earlier in the day today, those short arms can cause some grade slippage.
