Regional combines underway

Regional combines underway … While most of the national attention is on next week’s annual scouting combine, the NFL is holding 5 regional combines over the next few weeks for players not invited to the ‘show’ in Indianapolis. The first regional combine was held last week in Houston with the 4 remaining ones scheduled for February 20th in Arizona, February 27th in Baltimore, March 5th in Minnesota and March 12th in New Orleans. And while most of the players at the regional combines are really just hoping to get a free-agent tryout next summer, Akron OLB Jatavis Brown sent the league a message that just maybe he should have been invited to Indianapolis. Brown, who has been described as a poor man’s Myles Jack, is an odd size at barely 5-11 and 225 pounds, but ran a DB type 4.47 40 at the Houston regional. And lest anyone think Brown is just an athlete, the fact is he was one of the MAC’s most disruptive defensive players last fall when he racked up 116 tackles including 12 sacks and 8 other tackles for loss.
