#4 Canes, QB Ward ‘wrecked at Tech

#4 Canes, QB Ward ‘wrecked at Tech … Miami has kind of lived on the edge much of the season and 4th ranked ‘Canes paid the price in an early game today losing 28-23 to a middling Georgia Tech that was able to hold on when star Miami QB Cam Ward fumbled the ball away to snuff out the ‘Canes last hope. In the end, most of the blame for the loss goes on the Miami defense which allowed almost 300 yards on the ground, as well as several bizarre calls by the Miami coaches that ultimately left a bunch of points on the field. At the same time, its going to be a challenge for pro scouts to figure out what they were seeing from Ward, who came into the game considered to be one of two QB prospects with legit top 10 potential this coming April, but had what can only be described as an ‘uneven’ afternoon. Certainly, there was a lot good to see. Ward finished the day a respectable 25 of 39 passing for 348 yards and 3 scores, while he had a 4th taken off the board because of a penalty. And, at least until that final, fateful fumble, kept rallying the Miami troops who spent much of the second half looking up at a plus 10-point deficit. But he also missed some receivers, and while he does throw darts one wonders if his somewhat funky 3/4 delivery in which he puts a lot of his body into throws will translate all that well at the next level. Time will tell!
