Lions add ER Smith with trade deadline clock ticking … Apparently there is a big deal going on across the country today; something about an election or other. But hey, the really big deal today is the NFL trade deadline which comes up at 4 PM ET later this afternoon. And there were a couple of deals overnight to get the action started. Detroit acquired veteran ER Za’Darius Smith from Cleveland in exchange for a 5th round pick this year. To complete the deal, the teams will also swap late round picks in 2026 with the Browns getting the Lions’ 6th rounder that year, while the Lions will get the Browns’ 7th. Smith, who has 5 sacks so far this year with the Browns will try and help the Lions replace star DE Aidan Hutchinson who is out for an extended period. At the same time, Cincinnati acquired RB Khalil Hebert from Chicago for a 7th round pick this year.
