College rankings thrown for a loop as #1 and 4 go down

College rankings thrown for a loop as #1 and 4 go down … What a day in college football land yesterday as two of the top 4 ranked teams – and 5 of the top 11 – were knocked off. The biggest upset of the day came in Nashville where Vanderbilt, where the Commodores had never, ever defeated a top 5 team ever, stunned #1 Alabama 40-35. And there was nothing cheap about it as the Tide defence never found an answer for the pesky Vanderbilt offence led by pesky QB Diego Pavia. Then just hours later, Arkansas rallied from an 11-point half time deficit to knock off #4 Tennessee 19-14. Meanwhile, at various other times in the day #9 Missouri was throttled 41-10 at Texas A&M; #10 Michigan went down 27-17 at Washington for its second loss of the season; while #11 Southern California also lost for the 2nd time this year, losing 24-17 at Minnesota. On other hand, #8 Miami avoided the same fate at California when the ‘Canes overcame a 25-point halftime deficit to defeat the Golden Bears 39-38 on a last minute TD. All this means that Texas will likely move up to the #1 spot with Ohio State at #2, but both those teams have huge tests this coming week when the Longhorns face Oklahoma in their annual shoot-out in Dallas, while the Buckeyes what could very well be #4 Oregon on the west coast. Stay tuned.
