No mock today

March 15, 2024

No mock today … We were in fact right in the middle of putting together an updated post-combine, start of the new football year projection for the first three rounds of the 2024 draft which for the record is now just 41 days away. However, we were stopped in our tracks when Minnesota acquired a second first round pick in a trade with Houston earlier today. And since it seems pretty obvious that the Vikings made the deal in order to arm themselves for a trade up in order to get a QB to replace Kirk Cousins it doesn’t make any sense to do a mock with the Vikings still picking at 11 and 23. We also aren’t comfortable doing a mock with a speculated trade so we’ll be holding off doing a mock until we get a better idea what the Vikings have planned. Otherwise its just posting click bait.

That said, the league is abuzz as we speak wondering just what the Vikings have in mind. We are particularly curious as Minnesota seems to now have at their disposal a lot of draft ammunition, especially if as rumored they might also be inclined to include star WR Justin Jefferson in any trade talks. It just seems like more than one would need to move up to the 4th or 5th, especially if it was to select the 4th best QB in the draft. So our question is do the Vikings in fact have some bigger fish in mind. Could they in fact be positioning themselves to perhaps move up into the first three picks in order to actually select one of the top 3 QBs. Doesn’t seem likely that either Chicago or Washington, which have the 1st and 2nd picks respectively would be interested but New England at #3 just might. The other possibility we have to wonder about is could the Vikings actually possibly be targeting LA Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert. The Chargers just ditched both his top receivers and new head coach Jim Harbaugh could very well be thinking of a major overhaul, particularly given the team’s current dreadful cap situation, that could possibly start with his former Michigan QB JJ McCarthy. In that scenario, the Chargers might still have to be worried about someone like the Giants, or even Denver or Las Vegas trading with Arizona for the 4th pick; however, it would appear that the Chargers would then have the draft capital to move up themselves a spot if it came to that. As we said, 41 days to go!! Hang in there!
