Summary of Senior Bowl measurements

January 29, 2024

As noted earlier today, there’s a pretty good group of QBs at this week’s Senior Bowl in Mobile. However, its not a particularly big group. Michael Penix, the consensus top-rated passer in Mobile this week, for example, weighed in at only 212 pounds on a 6-2.5-inch frame; Penix, though, does have very big hands at almost 10-5-inches. At the same time, Bo Nix measured in at under 6-2 with relatively short arms. but did weigh 218 with decent sized hands of just under 10-inches, while Sam Hartman was just 6-1 with Spencer Rattler even shorter at just a smidgen over 6 feet even. In fact, the only Senior Bowl with more prototype pocket size was Joe Milton who measured in at 6-5, 235, while Carter Bradley was 6-3.

It also had to be a little bit of a disappointing day for UCLA DE Laiatu Latu, arguably the top-rated prospect overall in Mobile who very much looked the part measuring in at just under 6-5 and 260, but lacked the long arms NFL teams covet in potential elite edge rushers with just 32.5-inch arms. However, several other DEs more than passed the eyeball test today. Eric Watts of UConn, for example, measured in at 6-5.5, 277 and with over 35.5-inch arms, while Darius Robinson, another tweener type, was 6-5, 286 with 34.7-inch arms and huge 10.5 inch hands. Meanwhile, Western Michigan’s Marshawn Kneeland (6-3, 270, with 34-inch arms) likely did nothing to slow his rise in the ER rankings as he measured in at 6-3, 270 with 34-inch arms. In fact, it was a pretty good day for a couple of other somewhat under the radar edge rushers including Jalyx Hunt of tiny Houston Christian who came in at 6-4, 250, with 34-inch plus arms; Austin Booker of Kansas (6-4, 240 with 34-inch arms). Meanwhile, Chris Braswell of Alabama weighed in at 257 pounds, somewhat above expectations, although his less than 33-inch arms probably had to be a bit of a disappointment. On the other hand, Brandon Dorlus weighed in at 272, close to 20 pounds lighter than his listed weight, while he had 33.5-inch arms. The DE who stole the show among the ERs at today’s weigh-in was largely unheralded Myles Cole of Texas Tech who measured in at 6-5.5, 272 with enormous 36.5-inch arms.

Arguably, the best looking guy on the day, at least from a football perspective, was Houston OT Patrick Paul who measured in at 6-7, 333 with 36-inch plus arms. Similar story for Ethan Driskell of Marshall who tipped the scales at 6-8, 312 with 35-inch plus arms, while Javon Foster of Missouri came in at an impressive 6-5.5, 310 with 35-inch arms. Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga measured in at 6-5.5, somewhat taller than expected; he also weighed 332 while his arms were okay at 33.5 inches. Among the other top-rated OTs in Mobile, Tyler Guyton came in at 6-7, 328 with 34-inch plus arms, while Kingsley Saumataia was 6-4.5, 330 with 34-inch arms. Maybe the one OT who disappointed a little was Jordan Morgan who was also just under 6-5 with less than 33-inch arms.

Among other players of note, WR Johnny Wilson looked more like a TE at 6-6, 237 with 35-inch arms, while S James Williams looked more like a LB at 6-4,5, 230 with 33-inch arms. CB Khyree Jackson also impressed with excellent length for corner as he measured in at 6-3.5, 205 with 32-inch plus arms. On the other hand, DT Michael Hall was even lighter than expected at just 280 pounds, while S Cole Bishop, CB Johnny Dixon and WR Jacob Cowing all had arms under 30-inches.
