Chip Kelly to coach 49ers … In a bit of a surprise, San Francisco has signed Chip Kelly as the team’s new head coach. Kelly was fired before the final game of the season by Philadelphia. What makes the signing interesting from a draft perspective is that it was pretty much a given that the 49ers would cut bait with incumbent starting QB Colin Kaepernick and look at the position with the 7th pick in this year’s draft; however, Kelly’s high-octane spread offense could be suited to very well to Kaepernick’s skill set, and it’s now possible that Kaepernick could remain and the 49ers look at other positions with their top pick.
