Utah shuts down QB Rising, TE Kuthie

October 22, 2023

Utah shuts down QB Rising, TE Kuithe … Utah announced prior to last night’s dramatic last minute win over Southern California that neither QB Cam Rising nor TE Brant Kuithe will play this fall. Both were coming back from torn ACLs suffered late last season and the Utes had held out hope that one or both could return to the field at some this time this fall. There is also no word what either plans to do going forward. Rising, for example, could still try and enter the 2024 draft and hope for the best or return for a 7th season with the Utes next fall. However, with Utah rolling at 6-1 with two young QBs, it is also possible he could opt to transfer for a final year of college eligibility somewhere else.

In fact, it was a tough day for college QBs yesterday. In addition to Quinn Ewers of Texas who was forced out of the Longhorns win over Houston with an apparent shoulder injury, Duke’s Riley Leonard re-injured his ankle in the Blue Devils’ loss at Florida State. And Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke did not play at all in the Hurricanes’ dramatic OT win over Clemson. The ‘Canes had hoped that Van Dyke would be available but he has been dealing with both an injured leg and a hand issue on his throwing arm. Neither are believed to be serious, but are certainly frustrating for a guy who’s had his share of injury problems in the past.
