As the QB turns … Its been a tough couple of weeks on NFL QBs. Over the weekend, for example, Indianapolis confirmed that rookie QB Anthony Richardson, the 4th player chosen at the 2023 draft, will most likely miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. It now appears that Richardson will require surgery after he sprained the AC joint in his throwing shoulder the previous week. Richardson will be replaced as the Colts’ starter by veteran journeyman Gardner Minshew. Meanwhile, Chicago will be without QB Justin Fields for at least this week’s game against Las Vegas after he fractured the thumb on his trowing hand on Sunday against Minnesota. The good news for Fields and the Bears is that the injury does not appear to be season-ending; however, there is no formal timetable for Fields return who will be replaced by Tyson Bagent, a undrafted rookie free agent. And Tennessee’s disappointing season may have just gotten a little worse as QB Ryan Tannehill is dealing with a high-ankle sprain for the second straight year. The 2-4 Titans, who would have the 8th pick in the 2024 draft if it were held this week, do have this week off which gives Tannehill a little extra recovery time, but then face two games in 5 days against Atlanta and then Pittsburgh. If Tannehill can’t play, the Titans will decide between 2022 3rd rounder Malik Willis, who is listed as the team’s #2 QB, and 2023 2nd rounder Will Levis who has yet to play a down in the NFL.
