Cards QB Murray to PUP; back-up released

Cards QB Murray to PUP; back-up released … Arizona has placed star QB Kyler Murray on the PUP list as the Cardinals made their first moves to get down to tomorrow’s 53-man roster limit. Going on PUP means that Murray, who tore an ACL in December last year, will miss at least the first four games of the current season. And if their QB situation wasn’t complicated enough the Cardinals also somewhat shockingly also released veteran back-up QB Colt McCoy who had been expected to fill in for Murray. Instead the Cardinals are likely to start Josh Dobbs, whom they just acquired in a trade with Cleveland over the weekend when they open the season on September 10th in Washington. The speculation around the league is that the Cardinals – and we won’t call it tanking – are very much interested in ending up with the #1 pick at the 2024 draft where they would likely have a shot at QBs Caleb Williams of Southern Cal or North Carolina’s Drake Maye.
