WashComs name Howell starting QB … Washington has confirmed that second-year pro Sam Howell will be the starting QB when the Commanders open the 2023 regular season at home on September 10th against Arizona. Howell, who had been in a battle with veteran journeyman Jacoby Brissett for the job, was a 5th round pick from North Carolina in 2022 who played in only one game as a rookie last year. In that game, Howell completed 11 of 19 passes for 169 yards and a TD with one interception. Needless to say, its a big gamble for Washington which plays in a tough division which could ultimately have them looking hard at QBs in the 2024 draft if Howell doesn’t work out.
