Irish LB to undergo surgery … News reports out of Notre Dame are confirming that junior OLB Jaylon Smith did in fact tear an ACL in the Irish’s loss to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl last week and will undergo surgery on Thursday. Smith also tore an MCL in the injury. Smith had been considered to be a potential top 5-10 pick for the upcoming draft, but the 2015 Butkus Award winner had not yet announced whether he would turn pro this winter. That option is still available, but given the late date of the injury, he will almost certainly not be able to work out at the combine or his pro day prior to the draft. It is also not clear whether Smith would be ready for training camp or even be able to play at all next season making his draft stock very unpredictable.
