Canadians set draft record … Speaking or record at the 2023 draft, it was a great day for Canada as a record number of players from up north were selected. Indeed, a total of 5 Canadians were selected this weekend, breaking the old record of 4. And there was nothing cheap about the Canadian selections as all were off the board by the end of the 5th round. Syracuse G/T Matt Bergeron got it started for the Canadians when he was selected 38th overall by Atlanta early in the second round. Former Illinois S Sydney Brown then went early in the second round (65th) to Philadelphia, while Eastern Michigan OG Sidey Sow (117th to New England) and Mississippi DE Tavius Robinson (124th to Baltimore) were taken in the 4th round. And the record fell when Illinois RB Chase Brown, Sydney’s twin brother) was taken by Cincinnati in the 5th round. No big surprise too that those 5 are the highest ranked players for the CFL’s draft of Canadian born players this coming Tuesday. Bergeron is #1, followed by the Browns – Chase at #2 and Sydney at #3 followed by Robinson and Sow. However, given that those players will likely be in the NFL for awhile, they aren’t likely to be the first players taken. For the record, here are the rankings for Tuesday’s CFL draft.
