Five (5) days and counting … With just 5 days to go until the start of the 2023 draft, it means there may only be 5 more days to enjoy the annual off-season Aaron Rodgers soap opera. For the record, Rodgers is technically still the property of Green Bay as a trade with the NY Jets has yet to be consummate , although he reportedly is working out with some of the Jets and has also openly been recruiting veteran free agents to join the Jets. at the same time, the Jets, in particular, continue to express great confidence that Rodgers will be wearing their green next fall. The reported hold up in the deal is that the Packers are still holding out for a first-round pick in exchange, while the Jets are only offering a second and it is expected to come down to the actual before they settle. May we suggest a compromise; make it a conditional 2024 first rounder if the Jets make the playoffs and Rodgers agrees to stay with New York for another year or two. The whole story got a little more complex last week when rumors started to swirl that San Francisco could be a late entry after the 49ers reportedly looked to trade QB Trey Lance. The problem there is that Rodgers would have to agree to go back to the west coast and by all accounts he does really want to play for the Jets. A bit of a buzz was also created last week when Tom Brady wouldn’t outright come out and say no when he was asked if he would consider coming out of retirement to play for Miami. The story isn’t as crazy as it looks on first blush as incumbent Dolphins’ QB Tua Tagovailoa has had some major concussion concerns and even reportedly admitted that he has considered early retirement. Stay tuned!
