One week out chatter … If we’re one week out from the draft literally as we speak it means it’s also the season of pre-draft pressers. At the Seahawks’ press conference earlier today, for example, Seattle GM John Schneider confirmed that he has received a number of calls about the possibility of trading down, especially from the #5 spot. Schneider also indicated that to date the calls have still been rather cursory, but he expects more serious discussions next week as we get closer to the draft. Certainly, Schneider sounds like someone who is indeed looking for a trade down to acquire more picks from either or both of their first round picks, #s 5 and 20 … At the same time, Detroit GM Brad Holmes, whose Lions have the 6th and 18th picks in this year’s opening round, indicated at his presser that the team feels better about the character of Georgia DT Jalen Carter after meeting with him during his visit to the team’s facilities earlier this week. Carter, of course, had been considered to be arguably the top non-QB prospect this year, if not the best prospect period, prior to pleading no contest to a couple of driving offenses stemming from an accident in which two people lost their lives earlier this year. Certainly, sounds like Carter will be very much in the mix for the Lions when they get on the clock with the 6th pick IF he hasn’t been selected already which is a distinct possibility … Meanwhile, while Seattle is looking to trade down, Giants’ GM Joe Schoen sounded like a guy who’d be more than happy to trade in next week’s draft; indeed, Schoen also indicated that he’d have no trouble considering throwing in a 2024 or two if the right deal came along. The Giants, who currently have the 25th pick, were all over the top WRs during the pre-draft process, but its unlikely any of the guys the Giants were targeting get anywhere near the 25th pick … We’re still trying to get some information on Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson, who could go as early as the top 5 next week. He wasn’t able to participate in either the combine of the Red Raiders pro day because of a foot injury, but was cleared to play earlier this month was supposed to have scheduled a private pro day in mid-month. However, we haven’t heard whether he was able to go ahead with that or its scheduled for next week, although again he has been medically cleared to get back on the field.
