Guess who’s coming to dinner

April 4, 2023

Guess who’s coming to dinner … It is admittedly a far from perfect science, but one of the fun parts of the draft process at this time of year is looking for clues in the various teams’ list of 30-allowed pre-draft visits. Florida QB Anthony Richardson, arguably the most polarizing prospect in this year’s draft will reportedly be making a half dozen or so visits. And it is an interesting list. Richardson, for example, will be visiting Las Vegas on Friday and also has visits scheduled with Indianapolis, Atlanta, Tennessee and Baltimore. The fact that Richardson will visit the Ravens in particular has raised some eyebrows as Baltimore is embroiled in an ugly contract dispute with Lamar Jackson; if nothing else the fact that Richardson will visit the Ravens will continue to fuel rumors that Baltimore could ultimately work something out with a team like Indianapolis in a trade of Jackson for the 4th pick. Also interesting to note that Richardson will not be visiting Houston, which has the second pick, and even more surprisingly, Seattle is not on the list for now. at the same time, the fact that Tennessee is on the list will also give life to whispers that the Titans could be thinking of trying to get up to the 3rd pick, currently held by Arizona, in order to select Richardson. However, before we get carried away with talk of the Titans moving up, it is interesting to know that the Titans will also be hosting Tennessee Hendon Hooker later this month. Hooker would likely have been very much in the mix to be one of the first 4-5 QB selected this year prior to suffering a torn ACL late in the season. Hooker, though, is throwing already and claims that he will be ready for the upcoming season.

Elsewhere around the country, Alabama DE Will Anderson visited Detroit earlier today. Even picking 6th, the Lions likely would still have to move up a few spots to get Anderson, although they reportedly haven’t necessarily ruled that out. Remember, too, that Detroit will be hosting Georgia DT Jalen Carter a little later this month. And while Las Vegas will have Richardson in for a visit later in the week, the Raiders reportedly had Boston College WR Zay Flowers in for a visit today. Again one does not want to read too much into that, but it does appear to be the first real contact Flowers has had with any team with a top ten pick.

Meanwhile, there were multiple reports earlier today that New England has been shopping QB Mac Jones, the Patriots #1 pick from a couple of years ago.
