Colts, Cards raid Eagles staff for new coaches … Two more teams announced today that they have filled their vacant head coaching jobs and both found their guy on the Philadelphia Eagles staff. Indianapolis, for example, has hired Eagles’ offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, while Arizona has agreed to terms with former Eagles’ defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. Both hires were considered to be integral members of the Eagles’ staff that had them in this weekend’s Super Bowl. And job 1 for both coaches will be resolving their respective team’s QB situation. Steichen, who is known as something of a QB-whisperer, is expected to be heavily involved in the Colts’ search for a new QB which is expected to be focused on the 2023 draft where Indianapolis will have the 4th pick overall. Indeed, the Colts left little doubt that that will be their primary focus at Steichen’s introductory presser earlier today. Owner Jim Irsay, for example, indicated that one of the key factors in hiring Steichen was was the fact that they knew they ‘are going to have to find a young QB.’ And while both Irsay and G.M. Chris Ballard indicated that all options are on the table as far as the draft is concerned with Irsay adding that he thought ‘the Alabama guy doesn’t look too bad!’ Of course, that’s in reference to Alabama QB Bryce Young who appears to have emerged as the consensus top prospect at the position for the upcoming draft; indeed, if the Colts really want him they very well may have to trade up to get him.

For their part, Gannon’s Cardinals already have a veteran QB in Kyler Murray who recently signed a massive $230M extension, but there have been persistent rumors that he hasn’t exactly endeared himself to the organization with his work ethic and leadership. And if by some chance the Cardinals did decide to move 0n from Murray, like the Colts, they would be in prime position to address the position at the 2023 draft where they actually pick one selection earlier than the Colts at #3. On the other hand, if the Cardinals do stick with Murray, they are expected to receive some potentially enticing offers to move down, Stay tuned!
