With the 57th Super Bowl just around the corner, fans are excited about who whether the Philadelphia Eagles or Kansas City Chiefs will take the Lombardi Trophy home this year. However, whether the Eagles or Chiefs come out on top on Sunday, they will still have a ways to go to catch the teams with the most total Super Bowl wins.  In fact, these teams have made the most appearances in America’s biggest game.

New England Patriots: The Patriots have had a record-breaking run over the last two decades. Not only have they made it to the Super Bowl an impressive 11 times since 1986, but they have also won six of those, making them one of the most successful franchises in NFL history. In addition, they have consistently demonstrated their ability to put together deep playoff runs, winning three Super Bowls in four years between 2002 and 2005. Although they may not have had as much success this season, the Patriots remain a powerhouse in football with a loyal fan base that has faith in the team’s remarkable journey into another appearance at the big game.

Pittsburgh Steelers: As one of the most iconic teams in NFL history, it’s no surprise that the Steelers have had a long and impressive record. The vintage black-and-gold franchise has been to 8 Super Bowls in its storied existence, coming away with six wins and two losses over their appearances.

Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys have been a mainstay in the NFL since the team’s inception in 1960. Over those 60 years, they have established themselves as the self-proclaimed ‘America’s Team’.  This is evident by their eight Super Bowl appearances record and five wins, although it has been almost three decades since the Cowboys have actually lifted the Lombardi Trophy.

Denver Broncos: The Broncos are an iconic football team with a long and storied history. They have undeniably left their mark on the gridiron, having made 8 Super Bowl appearances to date – not bad for an NFL team that has been around since 1960. Of course, these impressive numbers don’t quite tell the whole story. While the Broncos can be proud of their 8 Super Bowl showings, it’s worth noting that those appearances only translated into three wins for the team – a slightly disappointing record given the fanfare that typically accompanies a Bronco run to the Super Bowl.

San Francisco 49ers: After years of success in the 1940s to 1970s and a hiatus in the 80s and 90s, the San Francisco 49ers have become a sports dynamo again. Through incredible leadership, hard work, and determination, the team has made it to seven Super Bowl games and walked away winners five times. Such an incredible record is a testament to the team’s greatness and strength – they have not only accomplished great things on their own, but they have endured tremendous obstacles as well. There is no denying that every time they make it to another Super Bowl game, their fans will be ready to cheer them on with anticipation.

It would also be remiss not to mention the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants, both of which have won 4 Super Bowls. The Pack and G-Men are also two of a half dozen teams that have made 5 total Super Bowl appearances along with the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Rams and Washington Redskins/Commanders.

The NFL teams with the most appearances in the Super Bowl are the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and San Francisco 49ers. While each of these legendary franchises has its unique story regarding their accomplishments on the gridiron, they all share one thing in common – an incredible record of success that makes them a powerhouse in football.

Regardless of whether or not your team is playing this year’s Super Bowl game, there’s no denying that these teams are some of the best to participate in America’s biggest sporting event.
