Kiper updates top 25; DT Carter to #1, Levis top QB … For those that haven’t seen it, ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper has updated his top 25 prospects for the 2023 draft with the regular college football season having been completed. we note it because there are several noteworthy changes. On the one hand, Kiper has slipped Georgia DT Jalen Carter into the #1 slot overall ahead of Alabama DE will Anderson who drops to #2. As we noted when we posted our own updated Big Board earlier in the week, there are teams with concerns about Anderson’s position fit as he is a little undersized at barely 245 and may struggle holding the point of attack against bigger NFL OTs. For his part, Carter did miss time this fall with some nagging injuries, but when healthy was dominant. Interestingly, Kiper lists Will Levis of Kentucky as the top QB at #3, one spot ahead of Alabama’s Bryce Young. That’s interesting because there have been rumblings elsewhere that there has been some slippage in Levis’ grade in the wake of a somewhat pedestrian second half of the season. However, what teams are looking at as much as their stats, is their tool package and Levis has a good one. Meanwhile, other players who have moved way up on Kiper’s list include Boston College WR Zay Flowers, who he has at #16, Alabama FS Brian Branch at #21 and CBs Deonte Banks of Maryland at #21 and Illinois’ Devon Witherspoon at #24.
