College realignment taking shape … The American Athletic Conference confirmed earlier today that six new members, including Alabama-Birmingham, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, and Texas-San Antonio will officially join the AAC on July 1st next year. All of the new AAC teams were part of Conference USA last year. That announcement came just a couple of days after the Big XII confirmed that Cincinnati, Houston and Central Florida, which had been in he AAC, will start play in the conference next year, along with BYU. Still no word, though, on when Texas and Oklahoma will formally move to the SEC. Those two schools can move to the SEC penalty free in 2025, but could pay a penalty to move sooner.
