WR class rising???

March 24, 2022

WR class rising??? … Perhaps the most interesting aspect of yesterday’s big trade that saw star Kansas City WR Tyreek Hill go to Miami for a passel of picks, was the fact that the Jets were also all in in pursuit of a big-time receiver. Of course, its been no secret around the league that the Jets were likely to take a hard look at receivers with the 10th pick in next month’s opening round. However, there is a little bit of a buzz out there these days that says that no one should be totally shocked if the Jets were to even take a top WR with the 4th pick. Indeed, there is a palpable buzz around the league that no one should be totally surprised if the receivers end up going earlier in this year’s opening that where there currently rated. It’s certainly not hard to imagine that teams around the league noticed that last April, Cincinnati opted to pass on the top OT in the 2021 draft and take a WR, with the result that the team that did eventually select the lineman won two fewer games last fall that the previous year, while the Bengals went from last all the way to the Super Bowl. It also wasn’t hard to notice last year that all four of the playoff finalists had an elite WR among the league’s top 7 receivers and that the returns Green Bay and KC got when they traded away star WRs Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill, respectively, were pretty close to QB packages. There is also the fact that media and the fans tend to think of teams using their picks to fill their biggest needs, i.e. their biggest weaknesses whereas teams tend to look for the player that gets them closest to the Super Bowl. Oh, and did we mention that the draft is 5 weeks away today! Hang in there!!
