Barnes sizzles in final CB results; Sauce heats up … As noted at the beginning of the note on CB times below we do not want to get too carried away until we get the actual official times. Indeed, according the official times Baylor’s Kalon Barnes came within 1/100th of a second of tying John Ross’ all-time 40 combine record of 4.22 seconds. For the mathematically challenged, Barnes was credited with a 4.23. And for the record, the official times were much kinder to Cincinnati’s Sauce Gardner who was credited with a much more respectable 4.41 clocking which is outstanding given his length. Meanwhile, UTSA’s Tariq Woolen was credited with a final time of 4.26 seconds which is also among the fastest of all time. In fact, there had to be some issue with the unofficial timing because you don’t normally see guys get some much faster anymore off their unofficial times. So for example, Florida’s Kaiir Elam went up (or down) to 4.39, Washington’s Trent McDuffie finsihed with a 4.44 clocking, again much closer to what was expected. At the same time, some of those other times also went down: Zion McCollum, for example, was ultimately credited with a 4.33 clocking, Alontae Taylor was at 4.36, and Cobie Durant, Tariq Castro-Fields and Cam Taylor-Britt were all timed in 4.38.
