No changes to CFP until 2026

No changes to CFP until 2026 … For those that missed it earlier this week, but hoped that the format for the current college football playoff would be expanded sooner rather than later, were doused when the committee looking at the options indicated that the current contract for the 4-team playoff, which expires in 2025, would be allowed to play out. The committee had proposed a 12-team playoff that had been reasonably well received, but further talks got bogged down over disagreements as to which, if any, conferences should get automatic bids, as well as questions as to who would get to televise the revised format and what would become of the existing bowl structure. So for the next four years, there will continue to be a 4-team playoff that everyone in college football wants to be part of, along with several hundred (it seems) meaningless bowl games that nobody wants and significant numbers of top players sitting out. Then, of course, they’ll simply have to re-address all the same issues when the current contract expires. Stay tuned!
