Meyer out at Jax … In kind of a shocking development with some draft implications, Urban Meyer has been fired by Jacksonville just 13 games into what was supposed to be a new era for the Jaguars. It has been a situation that has been brewing for several weeks now and came to a head in recent days with several allegations against Meyer including one that he had kicked a former player. What it means is another start over in the front office for the Jaguars who are 2-11 and would have the 3rd pick overall were the 2022 draft held this week. The firing also comes at what may be an inopportune moment for the Jaguars as they are just three days away from their ‘big’ – at least from a draft perspective anyway – game with Houston on Sunday which will go a long way in determining which pick they get this year. For the record, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will take over as interim head coach for the Jaguars for the rest of the season. The good news for the Jags is that players like QB Trevor Lawrence, the #1 pick at the 2021 draft, can’t enter the transfer portal, at least for 3-4 years. One also gets the sense listening to some pf the players comments is that few are unhappy to see Meyer move on.
