Mid-season mock fest concludes

November 11, 2021

Mid-season mock fest concludes with the great Grumpy projection … Our annual blizzard of mid-season mock drafts concludes today with GBN Editor Colin Lindsay’s stab at predicting the opening round of the 2022 draft which is now just 168 days away. And the great Grumpy one guarantees (in writing if you want) that he may very well have gotten 1-2 picks right. Or maybe not. Of note, perhaps, today’s mock differs somewhat from those of GBN Chief Scout Larry Parker here and Associate Editor Pigskin Paul Guillemette here which were posted in the past couple of days in that there is a little bit more of a run on QBs early as that what’s QBs do. Also as noted previously, we have made the case before that there is no such thing really as ‘just one’ mock draft. Nobody in the business – not Mel Kiper, not Daniel Jeremiah and certainly nobody here – really thinks that any particular team is going to take a particular player, at least not after the first couple of picks. Whoever they slot in that spot is going to be one of several players who would be logical picks at that point depending on who is still available. That’s why it is kind of fun to do multiple projections because that’s what NFL teams do themselves so they are prepared for different scenarios evolving on draft day. Again, the value of a mock draft is NOT that is going to tell people which particular player a specific team is going to select at any point in the draft, but what type of players are likely to be available at that spot.
